Job Description:

The Postgraduate Student/ Medical Officer will work on COVID aspects of research at the MRC Unit on Child and Adolescent Health (including the Drakenstein Child Health Study, surveillance studies and Tuberculosis cohort studies) ongoing at the CHILD Unit under supervision of the Unit’s Principal Investigator and Data Manager. The Postgraduate Student/ Medical Officer will perform tasks including development of grants, project management, analyses, report writing and publications.
There will be good opportunities to present results at scientific meetings, further collaborations, and for development of further skills to advance career development.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage day-to-day- operational aspects related to COVID substudies alongside relevant Project Managers and Principal Investigator
  • Develop reports and presentations as required
  • Present results at scientific meetings
  • Develop and submit grant applications for COVID-related funding opportunities
  • Develop scientific manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals
  • Liaise with collaborators, funders and study teams to support operational aspects of studies
  • Perform statistical data analyses as required under supervision of Unit’s Data team

Job Requirements:

  • Ability to write scientific publications
  • Expertise in statistics, epidemiology, child health, clinical research, or immunology advantageous
  • Must be able to work as part of a team
  • Undergraduate degree in health or health-related field
  • Advanced computer skills including statistical analyses
