Job Description:

Through its Student Wellness Service (SWS) at UCT, the Department of Student Affairs is seeking a qualified person for the post of practitioner research officer on a one-year contract for appointment as soon as possible. The position reports to the Director, SWS.
As a successful candidate, you will provide research support to the Director. The candidate will be expected to coordinate all health research activities, compile research proposals and all administration related to the projects and coordinate all relevant stakeholders

Job Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and participate in various portfolios or projects in the SWS
  • Identify sources of funding, prepare research proposals, and submit funding applications.
  • Presentations to SWS Director and relevant university management
  • Provide regular reports to management and recommend feasible changes to meet departmental priority objectives.
  • Provide research administration
  • Plan and initiate new research projects

Job Requirements:

  • Two years of research experience in the areas of social work, public health, psychology, development studies, anthropology, or similar disciplines
  • Evidence of publication, i.e., a minimum of 5 peer reviewed policy orientated journals
  • Previous experience with international, multi-partner research collaborations
  • Personal accountability
  • Experience providing health or social services to students in a higher education setting
  • Fluency in at least one South African language (other than English)
  • Experience in working in the South African public health, and social development system
  • Experience in teaching/training and post-graduate supervision
  • Experience in using research evidence to influence policy and practice
  • Flexibility and adaptability to a variety of presenting problems
  • At least one year of experience in field work surveys
  • Experience in both qualitative and quantitative research methods
  • Excellent written, verbal skills and other communication skills
  • NQF Level 9/Master’s degree in Social Development, Public Health, Psychology, Anthropology or similar training in statistics
  • Three years experience in higher education or related fields
  • Good interpersonal skills & team player
  • Research experience in the fields of mental health or any other health and wellness field
  • Management of research grants, including reporting to funders
